Find the charts here:
The data comes from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (https://www.acea.auto/) and it is impressive to see that new non-electric cars registrations have gone down from 95,2% in 2017 to 49,6% in 2024!!
The charts are interactive so I recommend you visit the above link from your desktop so you can explore them in detail! Thanks Nick!

I think it’s a real shame the hybrids are doing so well as in many respects they’re the very worst of both worlds → hybrid = ICE engine + batteries + electric motor ← so they’re heavier and normally have higher NOx and CO2 emissions than their petrol or diesel equivalent. Meaning they’re actually worse for the environment when being built, worse whilst being driven, worse for tyre particulates and worse when being decommissioned.
I think range and charge anxiety is at play here, when people choose a hybrid instead of an EV…
2 of my neighbours have purchased EVs after we did the infrastructure work so that anyone in the communal garage could have a plug/charger available. We already had 2 hybrids. I suspect new cars will be EVs as we have facilitated the infrastructure for the rest of neighbours.
